Foreign citizens DO have a voice!
By Derek Terell Allen
As many of you know, Alþingi elections are approaching. You, as a foreign citizen, likely have many concerns, but feel disempowered because of your lack of voting rights on the national level. However, what a lot of you don’t know is that certain parties allow you to vote in their primaries. One such party is the Pirate Party.
The Pirate Party stands more for the interests of immigrants than any other party in this country. Whether it be your right to learn Icelandic during working hours, your right to have your case for international protection fairly evaluated, or your wish to be truly integrated into society and not tokenized, the Pirates have your back. Pirates are firm believers of “nothing about us without us”, so we need your input. We encourage you to register for the party here. Registration is free of charge, anonymous, and otherwise hassle-free.
Furthermore, there will be a meeting at the end of the month to go over our election agenda. Immigrants’ issues comprise a part of that agenda, so feel free to attend that and let your voice be heard.
We urge you to use your voice at this incredibly turbulent time in Icelandic politics. Do not miss your one and only chance.
