Píratar love all kinds of flags, because the Pirates' symbol is exactly that; a flag. Flags are used to show a position or remember the fight for rights. The flags of the queer community are extremely important to us as they represent visibility, solidarity, history and struggle. We stand stronger together.
Our community is at a crossroads. We can go in the direction of ignorance and fear or choose freedom and security for the future. Píratar believe that everyone has the right to live their lives on their own terms regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
Píratar want a city where queer people feel safe when partying downtown, swimming, when they receive services from the city, in schools, libraries and just everywhere.
Píratar want, for example, to finance the queer youth community center, ensure that the city works systematically against hate speech, ensure universal design e.g. in swimming pools and getting services from the city, survey the status of queer senior citizens and ensure that they can live safely in their retirement years, survey the status of queer disabled people, survey the status of queer immigrants, rainbow-certify all workplaces in the city and have queer education at all school levels.
First and foremost, we want a city where everyone feels safe to live their lives on their own terms. Let's make a better city for queer people!
